The Insurance Council of Australia has advised it is monitoring the North Queensland floods and keeping an eye on claims coming through from damage. It advises people to submit insurance claims as soon as possible and to contact them at https://insurancecouncil.com.au/about-us/complaints-concerns/ if you are having issues with your insurer. The Queensland Government has also activated disaster relief payments. Go to https://www.qld.gov.au/community/disasters-emergencies for more information. People are being told to evacuate from Cluden, Hermit Park, Idalia, Oonoonba, Railway Estate and Rosslea. And a woman in Ingham died when a rescue boat capsized in some of the worst flooding seen there in decades. The rain band on the photo has been hovering over the Townsville region for three days and is not expected to move off until Tuesday. It’s also accompanied by gale-force winds and the Townsville Airport is closed. This is a serious situation that’s changing all the time. If you are trapped in floodwaters, call 000 immediately. Please listen to the warnings and err on the side of caution. Monitor the Townsville Disaster Information Facebook page for updates. https://www.facebook.com/TownsvilleDisasterInfo
