If you think this couldn’t happen to you — think again. Right next to a government-funded viewing platform at Lake Tyrrell, Murray and Marie Allan have been blocked from building a small, low-impact caravan park on their own land — land that has been farmed for 80 years. A cultural archeology assessment was done. It found nothing. Yet they’ve been stopped. I wrote to Tanya Plibersek in 2023 when she was Environment Minister about this issue. An expert report was completed — but it still hasn’t been released. Now Murray Watt holds the portfolio. What’s in the report? Why won’t the community see it? This is about private property rights. It’s about fairness. And it’s about whether regional families — after 80 years of farming the same land — can make reasonable decisions about their own property and future.
