Ms Caitlin Collins (Hillarys—Parliamentary Secretary) (12:59 pm): I recently had the opportunity to speak at an attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) awareness event organised by local advocate from Kallaroo Helen Talbot. Helen has been a real champion for ADHD awareness, and it was great to see so many parents, educators and health professionals come together for such an important conversation. We heard from the CEO of ADHD WA as well as keynote speakers who work directly with young people as coaches and speech pathologists. The discussion was deeply practical, focusing on how we can better support families in navigating the system. For too long, families have faced long waits and barriers just to get a diagnosis or basic support. The Cook government's reforms are changing that and they represent a structural shift in how ADHD is recognised and treated in this state. I spoke about our reforms to make ADHD care more accessible and responsive, and specifically our $1.3 million GP program, which for the first time will allow specially trained GPs to diagnose and prescribe for ADHD. We are also investing $1.2 million in ADHD WA to expand family-focused services such as counselling, peer support, coaching and education about non-medication options. There was a shared understanding in the room that ADHD support cannot be one dimensional; it needs to reach families early, be grounded in evidence and reduce the stigma that too many people still face. Collaborative events like this remind us how local advocacy translates into action. I thank Helen for her passion and initiative in this space, and I look forward to her next events in our local area to foster understanding, share valuable resources and create a network of support for each other.
