An elected Coalition Government will commit $6 million to OzFish to help them ensure better habitats for better fishing.

Visiting Port Sorell, Shadow Environment Minister Jonno Duniam said fishing was vital for jobs, tourism and recreation in Tasmania.

“OzFish are a terrific community partner who do work across the country to help ensure our marine habitats are pristine,” Senator Duniam said.

“Here on the North West coast of Tassie – our waterways are a way of life, and ensuring their health means we can maintain this and the jobs that come with it.

“This investment will serve to keep recreational fishing strong, our commercial fisheries sustainable and help ensure that the overall health of these waterways can continue to thrive.”

Liberal candidate for Braddon, Mal Hingston, said he was excited to see OzFish be given the opportunity to undertake work in Tasmania.

“Recreational fishing is part of the Tamanian way of life – and the Coalition wants to see this continue,” Mr Hingston said.

“Along with our 25 cents per litre cut to the fuel tax, this initiative will help protect the Tasmanian way of life and keep it affordable for all Tasmanians.”
