Maffra will soon see an underutilised area in town transformed into a thriving, all-inclusive, accessible green space, thanks to #lovegippsland Stronger Communities Program funding.
Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester said the George Gray Centre (GGC) has secured $20,000 in funding for the construction of the GGC Garden of Inclusion, in partnership with other community organisations.
“It’s a community-driven initiative, designed to support people of all abilities through gardening, education, and social connection,” Mr Chester said.
“Slated for completion by the end of the year, the garden will include raised, wheelchair-accessible garden beds, sensory-friendly plantings, shaded seating areas, and educational signage in easy-to-read and braille formats.
“GGC will also facilitate workshops and hands-on activities tailored to accommodate people with varying abilities, providing therapeutic benefits, supporting mental health and well-being and encouraging skill-building and community engagement.
“It’s a great initiative that will undoubtedly benefit the community, and I look forward to visiting upon completion.”
