Farrer MP Sussan Ley today joined Australian basketball legend and Albury local Lauren Jackson, Albury Mayor Kevin Mack, and Albury MP Justin Clancy to officially open Stage 1 of the $15.2 million redevelopment of the Lauren Jackson Sports Centre in Albury.
The Lauren Jackson Sports Centre is one of Southern NSW’s major indoor multi-sport facilities, attracting more than 120,000 users each year and attracts regional, state and national championships.
The redevelopment was brokered under the 2022 Albury Wodonga Regional Deal with $80 million from the Commonwealth Government.
Stage 1 of the Lauren Jackson Sports Centre redevelopment works included a new playing surface, player and family accessible change rooms, increased show-court seating capacity and new administration and corporate spaces.
“Today we celebrate the upgrade to Albury’s premier sporting facility named after our city’s greatest sporting achieve Lauren Jackson,” Ms Ley said.
“The opening of Stage 1 of the redevelopment is an exciting milestone for the Border region.
“I am so proud to be here as the local member celebrating this fantastic achievement for our region.
“I know a future Stage 2 is also eventually looking at the feasibility of adding a Regional Aquatic Facility with a 50 metre pool for competition and leisure, hydrotherapy pools, a gym, group fitness and allied health options.”
